Hear me out: When you’re a teen girl dating an adult, what does your relationship look like? Are you showing off your new boyfriend to your friends? Are you kind of sort of gushing about how great they are to your nosy mom?
If you’re 16, think about how different you were three years ago.
You’re probably borderline cringing right now (it’s normal, seriously).
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock over the past 24 hours (or you’re just not really into Twitter beef), you probably heard about the spat between Amber Rose and Khloe Kardashian.
The issue: Amber Rose was side-eyeing the fact that rapper Tyga, 25-years-old, is allegedly dating Khloe’s 17-year-old sister Kylie Jenner.
No, and at Gurl we’re really not interested in demonizing or shaming girls who make the decision to engage in these relationships. (By the way, if you’re a teen girl and you’re still debating being in a relationship with on older dude, check this: A friend of mine, Amy-Rose of Rookie Mag, was 15-years-old when she was dating a 28-year-old professor and she wrote an awesome piece about what it was like.
But as your honorary big sisters who have been there and done that, we’re definitely here to side eye the hell out of older dudes who have an explicit interest in dating teen girls. If you’re interested in a real perspective that doesn’t insult your intelligence, definitely check it out because it is straight up fascinating.
So these dudes find it easier to attract the attention of teen girls who might give them the time of day instead. No matter how old you are, you can be susceptible of manipulation, and dudes like that are at manipulating girls into thinking that they’re cool and interesting when they really aren’t all that cool and interesting.
Like, cool, this dude was old enough to see The Strokes in concert 10 years ago when they actually had good albums out.
If they aren’t, that’s a huge red flag, girl, and says a lot about the dude you’re dealing with.
As a young woman in my early ’20s I can tell you that there are dudes my age (sadly) who aren’t mature whatsoever and can’t date a woman their age to save their life.
Believe it or not in another two years you’re going to have the same reaction (it’s normal, seriously).
